It’s no secret that toned and defined body parts look good but even more importantly they feel good. I am not saying that having a fit body solves your life problems, like with everything you need balance, but it can certainly contribute to feeling more comfortable in our own skin and just healthier in general.
As I have previously mentioned in another blog post, it’s much easier to achieve and maintain results if you enjoy your workouts and guys this is one workout method available only in Ottawa that you don’t want to miss.
Week # 72 Challenge: Come try a workout at the New #BODIESBYPHIL Gym!
It may not be evident in the picture but with catching the flu this week and craving nothing but carbs, it feels like my body took a beating. Working out was out of the question but I will surely be ready to tackle Phil’s workout on March 21st, 2018 and hope you will too! Scroll down to see how the class went..
Quick, effective and fun workouts that will offer results. To me, the biggest selling point is the fact that #BODIESBYPHIL let’s you workout in a non-serious environment. You will be able to swear, laugh and just be yourself while you train, heck that’s good for both your physical and mental health.
Each training session involves:
- 45 minutes of instructor guidance
- High Intensity Interval Training
- Resistance Exercises – Weight Training
- Live Heart Rate Tracking (monitors the calories burnt)
- A fun Group Setting
Basically, a recipe for long-term success!

About the facility
Bodiesbyphil is organized a little differently than what you may be use to and I think it’s pretty cool.
I can’t attest to the men’s one, naturally, but the women’s change room was really nice. Seriously the showers were sooo clean and beautiful, the room as a whole looks like a large easy to share washroom. You have spots to hang your coat and bags, although no locker options. I was a bit nervous about that but they have you covered.
The facility has one large training room. There you have a little cubby to place your keys/wallet & phone. The cool part is that in each little cubby box you have an iphone charger. So useful for anyone on the go…
Did Phil’s class shape my body?
Ok so yes, I would have to say Phil’s class kicked my butt. The class I attended was a Shred Class and it involved plenty of weights. When you enter the workout area Phil becomes your fitness advocate. Here is a bit of a breakdown:
1 – Instructor highlights the House Rules
2 – Explains the days stations and movements – The Shred class consisted of spending 4 minutes at 5 stations. Each station targeting mainly the core and upper body.
3 – Group Warm-up
4 – Interval training – was done in groups of 4 at each station for 4 minutes, then you moved on to the next one.
5- Cool Down – it was well deserved
It’s not an easy workout but what’s the fun in completing an easy-peasy workout? Having Phil guide the group and provide special attention to each class participant was really motivating. In hindsight, I feel like I could have increased my weights at one of the stations but that’s part of learning to know your own strength. You don’t want to push yourself beyond your body’s capacity but you should never stop challenging yourself either. I wasn’t let down in the end either, as a touch of humour and swearing was in fact incorporated during the session which made everything feel more laid back and funny.
Overall, the structure in Phil’s class is really ideal in my opinion as it’s intense, it works and it’s much more affordable than hiring a personal trainer.
